
Last week, in an exclusive, the Daily News reported that a top aide to the Mayor tried to shut down an official Community Education Committee meeting when parents began to criticize the Mayor’s plan to abolish the SHSAT. This is just the beginning of his push to get his proposal through in 2019.
The DOE is going to every school district community board to show a very convincing presentation that his plan is worthy. The DOE presenters glaze over the fact that 1000 high scoring test takers will not be offered a seat under his plan, as reported in the Wall Street Journal, and openly display a graphic that shows Asians losing close to half their seats, something they seem to be proud of. On top of that, he has operatives trying to silence the opposition.
Chancellor Richard Carranza is also engaged in the push. Last week he said of the Specialized High Schools “ They are “the epicenter of privilege” for people like Supreme Court justices — “the ones who don’t like beer.” “
