Imagine this: It is January 2019 and the New York State legislator begins its new session. The bill designed by Mayor DeBlasio’s to abolish the SHSAT comes up for a vote in the State Assembly because it passed the education committee in 2018. It passes easily in the majority Democrat Assembly.
The bill goes immediately to the State Senate where the Senate Education committee votes on approving it. Because three Pro-SHSAT Senators, including Tony Avella, Jesse Hamilton, and Jose Peralta are no longer on the Education Committee because they lost their Primary races in September, their replacements, appointed by the new Democrat majority leader, vote to approve DeBlasio’s Abolish SHSAT plan. The plan then goes to the Senate floor for a vote. The newly elected Democratic Majority State Senate votes in favor of abolishing the SHSAT. It now goes to the Governor who is sure to sign it because he knows of no opposition to it.
Mayor DeBlasio has finally succeeded in abolishing the SHSAT. An unbiased, objective merit based metric that has admitted poor and working class students of every color for close to 100 years will no longer exist.
This scenario will surely take place if we do not take action now. CoalitionEDU has been fighting the Mayor since before he was elected with a wide network of talented volunteers. Now however, the effort requires professional help and funds.
The founders of CoalitionEDU have established a fund to support the impending fight coming in January.
Please go to MeritFund.org and contribute to the Scholastic Merit Fund. Your support in any amount will go towards hiring professionals to stop De Blasio and stop the passage of the Abolish SHSAT bill.
$20 from everyone on this petition will help Save the SHSAT.
