It has been the Summer of Discontent for supporters of the SHSAT and quality schools. The Mayor and Chancellor has not engaged Specialized HS stakeholders or middle school parents since he made his abolish SHSAT proposal on June 1, or backed off his proposal. Instead he has doubled down by implementing a 20% Discovery program to skip over hundreds of competitively scoring test takers and selectively exclude, at his discretion, certain low income applicants. He has not supported State Senator Tony Avella's common sense bill calling for a non-test admission Honors Class for every grade in every school that has proven to be effective in getting students from throughout the city into a Specialized School.
Remind the Mayor, other legislators and voters. Please join the RALLY on Sunday, September 9th at 1PM at Foley Square downtown Manhattan corner of Centre Street and Duane Street.
