Jan 23, 2017
Father Joseph Scarangella was asked, "We would like to make an announcement to remind parishioners after the Masses at Mt. Carmel Church, that there is a meeting on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at 7:00 PM at the Township Hall of Montclair to announce the Sister City Resolution between Montclair and Aquilonia, Italy".
We thought they would not be a problem because, The Saint Vito Society is part of the Religious groups of Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church.
His response "ABSOLUTELY NOT!".
Please arrive around 6:30 pm for parking and to support the announcement!
(Attached is original E-blast sent on January 13th.)
On January 6th, Raffaele Marzullo attended the instillation of Cardinal Tobin, the new Archbishop for the Archdiocese of Newark. He said to his eminence, “We have anxiously awaited your arrival and as a committee member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, I invite you to come visit our church in Montclair and see the work we do in our community.
On Tuesday evening January 24, 2017 at 7:00 P.M. there will be a Montclair Township Meeting at 205 Claremont Ave. Montclair. The Mayor and the Township Council will be introducing a resolution unanimously approving that Montclair, NJ and Aquilonia, Campagna, Italy will become Sister Cities.
Club Aquilonese, celebrating their 100 year anniversary, is one of the religious organizations of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in our fourth ward of Montclair, founded, funded, and built by Italian immigrants. In the last 35 years the parishioner make up of Mt. Carmel Church has changed. We have become intertwined in the ethnic fiber of our 4th ward.” We together with Councilor Renee’ Baskerville and Councilman Russo, The “MESH Café”, Montclair PBA, Salvation Army, Knights of Columbus, and Tony’s Kitchen help provide services for those who find themselves in a position of needing a helping hand such as the homeless, elderly, families with children, immigrants, and refugees. Raffaele Marzullo will be signing and accepting the resolution with the Township Mayor.
At the same time Raffaele will request that Mayor Jackson officially invite Cardinal Tobin for a meeting to discuss keeping our church open and to show all the work Our Lady of Mt. Carmel does in Montclair. We request all parishioners and friends be present at the meeting as a sign of unity.

We ask everyone when making their weekly donation at Mass at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church to make that donation with a check made payable to “Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church Inc.” Since we are remaining open, we need to be generous in our donation.

Frank and the entire committee are working hard putting together a package to be presented to his Eminence Cardinal Tobin stating the reasons we feel the Decree should be reversed and to show what we do in our community.

We are taking a half page ad in the Advocate of the Archdiocese of Newark, welcoming and inviting the Cardinal to visit Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church.
