Label Drops Newsboys Following Tait Revelations—and It’s the Right Call

During the Elevate Music Festival in Arizona, Newsboys frontman Adam Agee publicly addressed the growing fallout from former lead singer Michael Tait’s long-concealed misconduct. In front of a packed crowd, Agee confirmed that Capitol Christian Music Group had dropped the band, ending a longtime partnership in the wake of Tait’s public confession to years of substance abuse and sexual misconduct—including complicity in an alleged assault during a 2014 tour.

While Agee expressed sorrow over the revelations and the impact on the band’s families, the decision by Capitol CMG signals an overdue act of institutional accountability in an industry too often silent. It also reflects the wider consequences unfolding: radio cancellations, lost bookings, and hard questions about complicity and response.

Although the remaining band members have vowed to move forward, this moment is less about their perseverance and more about the cost of delayed truth-telling. Capitol’s decision was necessary—and ultimately, the right call.
