It is important for us to continue to let Cape Cod Healthcare know what they are doing is outrageous and we will not stand passively by while they disregard Best Practices and dismantle decades of progress in Birth Centers on Cape Cod.

I trust that leaders in our community will enhance these efforts if enough people support this new petition and write letters requesting negotiations with Cape Cod Healthcare until they fully reestablish the services that have been cut. Additionally, legislation should be passed to prevent hospitals from cutting services that leave the population with a significantly increased prevalence of morbidities and mortality. Our Department of Public Health should have the authority to prevent restructuring and closing departments when doing so will cause considerable harm to the population they serve.
