Just when we thought we were making progress, the latest development comes as a total shock today, leaving us utterly speechless. After three months of promises that he would be allowed to operate from the new premises, and two week of stress moving house, mostly under his own steam, 76 Year Old Armando was dealt a callous and stressful blow. After deciding to play it strictly according to the book and follow the required processes, we took photographs and measured up, designing some simple temporary antennas and prepared the detailed plans required for East Kent Housing - the landlord to give their permission. We consulted both EKH and the RSGB Guidelines and took those into account before submitting a request, yesterday, to make the modifications necessary to put up various antenna. We then engaged the RSGB for support. (We are pleased to report they have acknowledged our request to assign a case worker to help with the technicalities of the planning process). Armando is minded to wait for permission from the council before he commences building his antennae. On the property is a chimney mounted TV antenna, which has been there for well over four years (courtesy of Google Earth). It is one of many such antennas in the area. We included this in the schedule of work as he wants to upgrade it. This morning two very belligerent emails arrived, utterly devastating Armando. Two separate employees from East Kent Housing had both visited the property, seen the TV Antenna and measured it. They then wrote a very terse email to him telling him to remove it "because it didn't meet regulations". Naturally we raised objection to this, mainly because we never, ever, thought we would see a senior citizen treated like this by public employees. Mindful of this, we now have 2184 signatures to the petition. We are making plans to treat this as a hiatus and to press on as planned - the petition remains open and when Armando is operating his radio station to his satisfaction only then will it close.
