A Skibidi Toilet film adaptation was announced in July 2024, set to be directed by Transformers directorMichael Bay and originally rumored to be released on Netflix, though no confirmation has been made. As of yet, there is still no sign of this production slowing down.

In the year since this announcement, the movie has continued on with its production, adding more big names to its roster. The film is to be developed by Invisible Narrative, a company founded by the former head of Paramount Pictures, Adam Goodman. Also added to the list are three-time Academy Award-winning VFX supervisor Rob Legato and Academy Award-nominated production designer Jeffrey Beecroft.

The Skibidi Toilet YouTube series is a detriment to society. Becoming popular among Gen Alpha following its release on February 7, 2023, it is poisoning the minds of the youth. The Skibidi Toilet creator Alexey Gerasimov (DaFuq?!Boom! on YouTube) has since published more than 70 of his shorts, grouping them into 25 seasons of content. The popularity went so far as to create a new term of slang, “skibidi” amongst its targeted audience of Gen Alpha, which became widely popular throughout 2023-2024 following the YouTube series release. Thankfully, the term has lost its popularity in recent months, sparing the older generations.

My personal problem with the series of shorts is how dark and fever-dream-like it is. The images shown are not only dark in the sense of lighting, but also present visuals that are almost disturbing to watch. The idea for the shorts themselves even came from Gerasimov’s own nightmare, where he dreamt of heads protruding from toilets, as mentioned in an article from Forbes. In no way are these shorts a good source of entertainment for young children. 

An adaptation of this kind not only threatens to prove that this type of content can become as mainstream as it is, but also poses a real threat of ruining film adaptations for future projects. With video game film adaptations becoming the new fad in recent years, with hits like The Super Mario Bros. Movie, A Minecraft Movie, Sonic the Hedgehog, and more, an adaptation of this kind could serve to ruin the progress that these other films have made in the film industry.
