As a concerned citizen, I feel deeply about the patterns of Grand Prairie community's daily routine. It has come to my attention that this coming Election Day is a non-school day- a crucial measure put in place to allow all to partake in our democratic duty. However, we must question the sense in having school the day just before.

Mondays are often challenged as it is - with the transition from the weekend, it can be distressing for both students and teachers. The reduction of school days has been acknowledged to reduce student and staff fatigue, according to the American Academy of Paediatrics. Also, with the stakes of this year's election, it seems inappropriate to contain the minds of our youth within the school walls when they could be at home, discussing and learning about the privilege of voting and the political process as a whole.

By removing school on the Monday before Election Day, our community promotes a streamline approach towards the election, offering families an opportunity to engage and educate further on its importance, as well as provide family’s with a peace of mind during these political days . Let's support this change for the benefit of our students, teachers, and community. So please, for the peace of Grand Prairie students and staff,sign this petition.
