The Issue

Loretta Alvarez has been fined £1,000 by Hounslow Council over a cardboard envelope she placed on a pile next to the communal bins near her home in Feltham, West London, because they were full.

With Christmas a month away, the penalty is excessive for a single mum who works in mental health doing her best to help others. Meanwhile Hounslow Council appears to have given one of its own councillors the option of donating money to charity rather than being fined for parking his £200k Lamborghini in disabled spaces at the council offices.

MyLondon is calling on Hounslow Council to cancel Loretta's fine. They've made their point, that they are coming down hard on fly-tipping, but a mum making an honest mistake when her bins were overflowing could be dealt with by simply talking to her, rather than a huge fine which is meant to deter people deliberately fly-tipping mattresses down residential streets.

If you feel the same, please sign our petition and help save Christmas for a local mum.
