I am deeply disturbed by the use of dog sledding and horse-drawn carriages, as these practices cause significant harm to animals.   Dogs used for sledding are often kept outside on chains, forced to run vast distances in severe weather conditions, and those who underperform are frequently subjected to cruel fates, including being shot. Dogs deserve love and care, not to be treated as expendable tools.

Similarly, horses suffer greatly in the name of entertainment and tradition. These majestic creatures are often injured while pulling heavy carriages through our city streets, which leads to painful injuries and even collapse. The impact of hard pavement and overburdening carriages is devastating for these animals. Moreover, horses that are unable to perform up to standards are commonly sold to slaughterhouses overseas or euthanized.

These practices are not aligned with the values of compassion and respect towards animals that many of us in Cote St Luc, Westmount, and Kirkland hold dear. There are numerous modern alternatives to these outdated forms of entertainment that do not involve animal cruelty. We, as a community, have the power to make a change by advocating for the cancellation of dog sledding and horse-drawn carriage events.

I envision a cit where animals are treated with the dignity they deserve. Together, let's stand for a humane approach to entertainment that prioritizes the welfare of all creatures. By banning these practices, we can take a positive and ethical step forward for our community.

Sign this petition today to urge the City of Cote St Luc, Westmount, and Kirkland to prioritize animal welfare and prohibit dog sledding and horse-drawn carriages in our community. Together, we can make a difference for these animals, ensuring a compassionate future for all.
