Cancel Armed Forces pension overpayment recovery and refund affected veterans

The Issue

Pension overpayments were made to a considerable number of Veterans over a period of years.

The Government admitted the maladministration in 2024.  In 2026 their sub-contractor, Equiniti, started sending debt demands for sums paid in error. Over 1,000 Veterans are affected by different classes of overpayment, with the average debt in the tens of thousands of pounds and the biggest overpayment identified so far being over £100k. This is another group of Veterans being punished for a Government mistake. The impact is life-changing for many of them and potentially life-threatening for some for an amount that is relatively tiny.

This petition is to ask the Government to waive outstanding recovery demands for Armed Forces pension overpayments caused by maladministration and to refund payments already recovered from affected veterans or their estates.
