Cancel and ban future editions of the World Humanoid Robotics Games

The issue

I recently heard about the World Humanoid Robotics Games and immediately realized how greatly they conflict with my vision of a happily regressed, AI-free world. These games stand in stark opposition to everything sport means—human effort, human glory, and human health. As a passionate advocate for traditional sports, I am deeply concerned about how this multi-sport event centered on robots devalues our traditions, endangers employment prospects, and undermines the essence of what sport truly stands for.

Traditional sports have long been a bastion of human achievement, representing the pinnacle of human capability, resilience, and perseverance. By allowing robots to compete, we risk losing the sense of human triumph that is pivotal to the sports we love and cherish. The idea of replacing athletes with robots is not only disheartening but also poses a significant threat to the authenticity of competition, rendering what should be a pure expression of human ability into a spectacle overshadowed by artificiality.

Moreover, the environmental implications of these games cannot be overlooked. Programming the AI code and deploying it on the internet requires substantial power, contributing to an ever-growing carbon footprint—a direct opposition to global efforts aimed at achieving a sustainable future, Putting the Maldives at risk. Hosting such events only serves to amplify the energy consumption that our planet can ill afford.

The human workforce is already facing unprecedented challenges due to the rise of artificial intelligence across various sectors, and the inclusion of AI in the arena of sports could further diminish opportunities for human athletes. The encroachment of AI on sports could herald a decline in sports-related jobs, from coaching to equipment manufacturing, threatening livelihoods worldwide.

Join me in voicing our disapproval of the World Humanoid Robotics Games. By signing this petition, you stand with countless others who cherish the true spirit of sports—one that is inherently human. Let us prevent the erosion of our traditions and say NO to the artificial integration that jeopardizes our sports and our values. Together, we can make a stand for the preservation of human-centric sporting events. Sign this petition and safeguard the heart and soul of sports for future generations.
