GOOD NEWS. Based on our efforts and that of our friends at Outlier Legal, we learned that there is a Circular to the MOPT by their Sub General Director stating that it is their obligation to recognize Immigration’s rules regarding the validity of entry stamps.

The Circular specifically states that Transportation is obliged to respect the validity of entry stamps for tourists who enter the country between December 18, 2019, and November 30, 2020, until March 2, 2021.

The last line may be a little confusing. There has been a change of interpretation from Immigration, people who enter the country starting November 1, 2020, onwards will no longer enjoy the automatic extension of their entry stamp until March 2, 2021.

People who enter the country as tourists starting November 1, 2020, will be allowed to stay depending on their insurance. Therefore, if a person purchases a 10-day insurance, they will receive a 10-day entry stamp only. The maximum permitted stay is 90 days.

In theory, this would mean that people who entered/enter the country during the above period could continue to legally drive until March 2, 2021, by carrying their foreign drivers’ license and passports.

IMPORTANT! The Circular is for internal communications only and we will have to wait for the official resolution issued by the MOPT, which has stated that in the next few days the extension shall be published.
