The Issue

Canadian creators are powering TikTok’s platform—with zero payout in return.

I’m Sharday Walker (@sharstylescurls) , a Canadian content creator with over 50 million views on TikTok in the past year. If I lived in the U.S., I could’ve earned $20,000 to $50,000+ through TikTok’s Creativity Program Beta—a monetization system that rewards long-form, high-engagement content.

But because I’m in Canada, I’ve made $0.

TikTok still runs ads on my videos. They profit from my content. But I don’t get a cent.

I’m not alone—thousands of Canadian creators are being excluded from fair compensation simply because of geography. TikTok’s Creator Fund and Creativity Program are available in the U.S., UK, Brazil, France, and more… but not in Canada.

This needs to change as a Creator Fund Supports Canadian Culture and Economy.

We’re demanding that TikTok:

✅ Launch the Creativity Program Beta in Canada

✅ Or, at minimum, offer some form of monetization like the Creator Fund

✅ Provide transparent eligibility criteria for Canadian creators to apply

✅ Provide clear timelines and transparency on when Canadian creators will be included

✅ Publicly acknowledge the need for fair funding for Canadian digital creators

Canada is in the top 10 countries for TikTok downloads and daily usage. TikTok earns millions in ad revenue from Canadian views, despite offering no Creator Fund or Creativity Program here. Without access to monetization, many Canadian creators are left with no choice but to rely solely on brand deals or look to the U.S. for better opportunities. Introducing a Creator Fund or Creativity Program in Canada would offer a stable income stream and support the long-term growth of our country’s digital talent.

The Creativity Program Beta pays creators $0.40–$1.00+ per 1,000 views in countries like the U.S., France, and Brazil.

  • Under this model, a Canadian creator with 50 million views could earn $20,000 to $50,000 USD—but instead earns $0.00

As of 2025, Canadian creators cannot access:

  • The TikTok Creator Fund
  • The Creativity Program Beta
  • Any formal ad revenue share model

TikTok continues to run ads on Canadian content, generating profit while excluding the creators from the earnings.

Countries with full monetization programs: U.S., U.K., France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Brazil, Mexico, South Korea, Japan

  • Creators in these countries earn real income for the same content that Canadians get nothing for.

Canada’s creator economy is valued at over $100 million+ annually and growing fast. 70% of Gen Z in Canada say they’d consider content creation as a career—but current platform inequality makes that unsustainable.

TikTok is making millions off Canadian content—and paying creators nothing in return. With over 8 million Canadian users and billions of views, it’s time TikTok included Canada in its monetization programs.

Content creation is real work. TikTok profits from our talent and audiences—it’s time they pay us fairly.
