Since the last update, there have been excellent radio interviews and articles published regarding this petition. However the target of 20,000 signatures has not yet been reached, so supporters are urged to share the most recent article (see link below). Let's pull out all the stops! There has also been an important development at the federal level, even though Minister Stephane Dion has not yet written back to say when the government might sign and ratify the Protocol. Still, as indicated in Dr. Dion's letter, the government has recently launched public consultations in advance of new legislation for Canadians with disabilities. To learn more go to: www.Canada.ca/Accessible-Canada. In a future update, my submission to Minister Carla Qualtrough will be posted here. Supporters of this petition are strongly encouraged to consider making their own submissions (See link above). In our personal or written submissions, we can urge the Canadian government to make the Protocol an integral part of new and existing legislation on the rights of persons with disabilities. The Protocol can only reinforce Canadian law on this human rights issue!
