Hi there,

The petition to end claw backs of disability assistance based on spousal income has reached over 40,000 signatures thanks to your support, and last year the provincial government committed to getting rid of this policy sometime in 2025.

When I recently asked the Ministry of Social Development and Poverty Reduction for an update on progress, all I got back was a response that government is working on it.

I pressed them on what this consists of, how far along they are in the process, and likelihood of success, but they would not provide any specifics - just assurance that it is being worked on.

With so many lives impacted by the existence of this policy, it would be nice if there were more transparency...

I do still feel optimistic that the spousal cap will be canned though, and the government's stated commitment to doing so gives us something to hold over their head the longer they take.

Thanks again for being part of the movement to end this unjust policy!
