Hi all,
I just want to provide an update.
Several MLAs, including parliamentary secretaries for accessibility and gender equality, will be meeting this week to discuss policy which makes someone ineligible for disability assistance or reduces their support due to spousal income.
This is a positive development, as it shows the issue is on the government's mind and considered important enough for them to discuss internally.
It's important to note that some MLAs have informed us that until advocates brought the issue to their attention, they had no idea that BC discriminated against persons with disabilities and their spouses in this way. That's why it's so important for everyone to contact their MLA about the issue if you have the chance. If you're not in BC, the same still applies, as policies are very similar nationwide.
Finally, look out for a Twitter account we'll be launching soon, dedicated solely to advocacy around this issue.
Have a great week, and bye for now!
