For years families of San Angelo have been placing personalized memorials at the sites of their deceased loved ones at Calvary Cemetery. But Saturday April 24th residents awoke to a disgusting scene, nearly all items that have been left for their loved ones were discarded into a pile by a dumpster. Hundreds of flowers, crosses, hand crafted mementos, and rosarys were thrown away as trash. The announcement of this recent shift in policy enforcement was sub par at best, the majority of plot owners were left unaware of the new enforcement measures. This is clear when looking at the amount of personalized memorials thrown away, this can also be clearly seen with the level of discontent among the community. As the members of the community with loved ones that are laid to rest at Calvary we feel insulted and disrespected that such a policy has been enforced with such little notice. We own the plots, we have our loved ones there , and we feel this decision shouldn’t be made by unaccountable officials. This is us holding these figures accountable, we demand a immediate revision of their policy on personal memorials.
