Remove Humboldt Bay Billboards

Remove Humboldt Bay Billboards

The Issue

It's time to say a Humboldt Bay Billboard Bye Bye.

The billboards on 101 between Arcata and Eureka block the view of our beautiful bay, which has been officially designated as a Coastal View Area.

Most of the billboards along Humboldt Bay are on public lands, and landowner permission for them to be there was revoked years ago. The North Coast Rail Authority, Humboldt Bay National Wildlife Refuge, and the Humboldt Bay Harbor, Recreation, and Conservation District have been working to remove billboards from lands under their jurisdiction along the Humboldt Bay shoreline for years. Public agencies have refused rent payments for the billboards for over ten years.

The billboards on private land stand in tidal waters and are in violation of current law.

The California Coastal Commission has required the removal of Humboldt Bay billboards as a condition of CalTrans' Indianola Rd. project.

We demand that CalTrans must stop renewing Outdoor Advertising Act permits for billboards without landowner consent.

Tell local government entities to take a unified stand calling for the immediate removal of all billboards along Highway 101 that block views of Humboldt Bay.
