Calls for Regulation in the Aesthetic Industry. Ensure patient safety, protect the public
The Issue
I am deeply concerned about patient safety and public health due to the lack of regulation in the aesthetic industry in Ireland. The current state of affairs is alarming, as it leaves patients vulnerable to potential harm.
The dermatology aesthetic industry is rapidly growing, with an estimated worth of €31 million in 2019 and expected growth rate of 7.8% annually until 2023 (source: Grand View Research). Despite this growth, there are no specific regulations governing this sector within our country. This lack of oversight can lead to malpractice and compromise patient safety.
It is crucial that nurses fulfill their roles as patient advocates by contributing to The Patient Safety Licensing Bill. This bill aims at establishing clear guidelines for medical practitioners in the aesthetics industry, ensuring they have adequate training and qualifications before they can practice.
By doing so, we can work towards creating a safer environment for patients seeking aesthetic treatments. This petition is being circulated by NMBI registered nurse members to improve patient safety through better regulation within the Dermatology Aesthetics industry. My signature could make a significant difference in promoting responsible practices. within this
sector.
Thank you for your consideration.
