Calling on the Govt of Ireland to enact Standalone Legislation on the crime of Spiking

Calling on the Govt of Ireland to enact Standalone Legislation on the crime of Spiking
The Issue
We are calling on the Government of Ireland to combat spiking through the introduction of standalone legislation, the development of accessible testing pathways and the provision of appropriate support services for those affected.
The Facts
In Ireland currently there is...
- No standalone legislation addressing spiking
- No dedicated category for recording incidents by An Garda Síochána
- Limited access to timely toxicology testing
- Little national research on prevalence or impact
Spiking is not currently defined as a distinct offence under Irish law. This lack of a clear legal definition can create challenges in:
- Recognising spiking as a specific crime
- Recording incidents consistently
- Supporting victims through the legal process
- Pursuing prosecutions
