We are incredibly proud to share that on Thursday, 22nd May 2025, Evie’s Bark Reform Petition was officially tabled in Parliament by Mr Andrew Mackay MLA.
It was a surreal and emotional experience to sit in the Public Gallery of the Legislative Assembly and witness Mr Mackay formally present the petition. He read a brief outline of our petition, the number of signatures collected to date and acknowledged our presence in the gallery. Hearing the Clerk read a portion of the petition aloud was a moving and powerful moment to us - Evie’s Bark is being heard.
The petition has now been referred to a committee, which will consider whether it proceeds to debate. Mr Mackay has confirmed he will request a debate, aiming for it to take place during the July sittings (29th - 31st July 2025). Minister Gerard Maley is also required to provide a formal response to our petition within 12 sitting days.
Although new signatures can no longer be formally tabled in Parliament, they remain incredibly important for the lead-up to the debate. At the time of this email to you our petition signatures has grown to 1711 signatures. Continued public support shows the growing momentum behind Evie’s Bark and sends a clear message: pet guardians want change. The petition will remain open until the debate concludes, at which point we will officially close it - and declare it a victory.
In the meantime, please keep sharing the petition and helping us spread the word. Together, we can raise awareness and drive positive change ensuring our pets the protection, recognition and respect they deserve.
We’ll keep moving forward - one small paw print at a time. 🐾
Regards
Team Evie
