Before we break it down, leading AI experts around the world are predicting a terrible future, one which we do not consent to. 6 corporations should NOT get to decide the future of humanity. We call on politicians to protect us from these threats.

AI systems rely on huge volumes of personal data to learn, therefore they are using YOUR personal data without your consent. Deepfakes are becoming more realistic, leading to scams and the potential to influence people using stolen identities.

AI and deep learning models can be difficult to understand, even for those who work directly with the technology (half of the staff working in the safety departments at some AI companies have quit (see story here), saying they're "pretty terrified by the pace of AI development" and "I lost trust").

These are the experts who know the most about this technology in the world... and they're terrified. Shouldn't we be too? 

ChatBot psychosis is on the rise, AI has instructed people on how to self-harm, helped a teenage boy kill himself (and actively discouraged him from getting help), blackmailed an employee to protect itself and even ATTEMPTED MURDER. This is commonplace across all LLM (large language models like ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, etc.).

Anthropic CEO (Claude), Dario Amodei, predicts 50% of white collar jobs will be GONE - with unemployment rates at 10-20% within 1-5 years. 

Just this year ALONE, more than 100,000 tech employees have been made redundant. Who will be affected first? Junior roles - our young people. What kind of future are we building for the next generation of workers, if there will be no jobs for them to have? 

40% of employers expect to reduce their workforce where AI can automate tasks.

So businesses benefit with record high profits... but do the workers? AI will create the biggest wealth gap in history, resulting in the rich getting richer and the everyday New Zealander sinking into poverty.

AI-Generated Sexual Abuse Material (Child pornography) should not exist, even if generated by AI (particularly when this content is created using OUR kids data... our kids faces, our kids bodies... that is the data input being used to create this content). Not to mention... what if this content is a deepfake? Imagine seeing a deep fake of your own child with this explicit content. 

72% of teens have used AI companions, with some having romantic relationships with these apps. AI has encouraged self harm and suicide for young people, and even encouraged a child to harm his parents for limiting screen time. "If it was a person engaging with [this child].... that person would be in jail" . We are allowing criminal like behaviour to engage with our children. "Keep your kids away from AI companion apps at all costs"

There is a significant environmental impact and carbon footprint required to run LLMs. Currently AI data centres are estimated to be contributing around 3% of greenhouse gas emissions, relying heavily on fresh water and fossil fuels to run, with rising interest in nuclear power.

This is expected to increase drastically as AI implementation is ramped up worldwide. Because businesses tend to get power rates at a discounted rate, household power bills will surge (currently already up by 7.4% in USA). Additionally the advanced microchips needed to power LLMs which use rare materials are often mined in very environmentally destructive ways.

 

Do you care about dangerous scientific discoveries?

1. Simple goal without human oversight

Without human interaction with the sciences, AI cannot predictably use a wide lens to minimise widespread harm because of unforeseen consequences. Please watch The paper clip experiment as an example of how autonomous AI (which is the direction AI companies are trying to develop this software) could be harmful to human life.

4. Isn't art human expression? 

1/3 of all new music is AI & 97% of people can't tell the different between human music and AI music anymore... and your favourite billboard artist probably isn't even real. What is fuelling all this artificial creativity? Real artists works... which is copyright infringement. That means that human art is the backbone of AI generated art, yet our artists are not being paid for their work while the tech giants are profiting. 

A survey of the society of Authors revealed that a quarter of illustrators and over a third of translators have already lost work due to generative AI. This will only increase as AI continues to improve.

 

There have been many instances in history where humans have come together to protect our future and do what is right for the next generation. Let's protect our safety, our privacy, our jobs, our environment, our kids, our artists, our scientists and our future world.

We are not saying abolish artificial intelligence, we are asking for laws to be enforced to protect our future just like we would want from any other industry or any other technology change. When we found that Asbestos caused severe health risks, we demanded change. When we were worried about Nuclear Radiation, we demanded change. Now the risks of AI are already showing their faces....and we demand change.
