The Issue

We, the undersigned, wish to express our deep concern regarding the proposed changes to the Post Office services at Spar (Blakemore's) in Machynlleth to move it and reduce it to a sub-post office.

We understand there are financial challenges involved; however, we strongly request and demand that you reconsider the proposals. The current Post Office plays a vital and invaluable role within our community, serving both private individuals and local businesses.

We are particularly concerned that:

  • Reducing the Post Office to a sub-post office will place enormous pressure on the already busy staff, potentially compromising service quality.
  • The existing layout, with counters at the back, is essential for customer privacy, security, and adequate space for parcels.
  • Moving counters forward will negatively impact staff and customer privacy, security, and the efficient handling of parcels.
  • The shop's current layout is already challenging to navigate, and these changes may exacerbate that difficulty.
  • With smaller Post Offices in the area already closing, maintaining the current facilities is more important than ever.
  • The loss/limiting of banking services for business customers is unacceptable and will place additional costs and pressure onto local businesses.

We therefore urge you to:

  1. Support the existing, experienced, efficient, and friendly Post Office team in Machynlleth.
  2. Maintain the two Post Office counters at the back of the shop for space and safety and security for staff and customers.
  3. Continue supporting the full range of banking and change-provision services at the current level for businesses, including pay-in and other financial transactions.
  4. Maintain additional vital services such as car taxation and currency exchange.
  5. To consult with the existing Post Office staff who know their customers and local PO business.

We believe that maintaining the current Post Office services is essential for the well-being and health of our private and business community.

Please now stop the original proposals.
