The Issue

A horrifying incident in Ashwaubenon, Wisconsin has made national headlines — and demands more than a press release.

A Cinnabon employee at the Bay Park Square mall was captured on video shouting racist slurs at a Black Somali Muslim couple, mocking the woman’s hijab, and declaring “I am racist.” She threatened them, flipped them off, and was only fired after the video went viral.

What happened isn’t just wrong — it’s part of a bigger problem.

Racial and religious harassment in public spaces across Wisconsin often goes unaddressed. Muslims, immigrants, and Black residents report being targeted while shopping, working, or simply going about their day. Yet there’s little public data, few real consequences, and no statewide process to track or stop these acts.

We’re calling on Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul to:

Launch a public investigation into this incident and others like it
Establish stronger statewide civil rights protections for shoppers, workers, and anyone in public-facing spaces
Create a public reporting system for hate-based harassment in retail and commercial settings.

Every person — regardless of race, religion, or background — deserves to feel safe and respected in their own community.

The fired Cinnabon employee has already raised nearly $100,000 through an online fundraiser. Meanwhile, the couple she targeted has received nothing but humiliation.

Wisconsin must send a clear message: hate has no place in our public spaces.

Add your name to demand accountability — and real action — from the Attorney General now.
