Call on Trump to Drop Plans for Additional EU Tariffs Over Greenland

Call on Trump to Drop Plans for Additional EU Tariffs Over Greenland
The Issue
President Trump has now confirmed that he will “100%” move forward with retaliatory tariffs on eight European countries—including the UK, France, Germany, and Denmark—over their opposition to his push to acquire Greenland, an autonomous territory within the Kingdom of Denmark.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said he would begin imposing 10% tariffs on all goods from these NATO allies on February 1, increasing to 25% by June unless a deal is reached to transfer control of Greenland to the United States.
This is not diplomacy. This is coercion.
The governments of Denmark and Greenland have made their position clear: Greenland is not for sale, and its future will be decided by its own people—not by outside pressure, trade threats, or territorial bargaining.
Trump’s tariff threat, if carried out, would:
Trigger an unnecessary trade war with our closest allies,
Increase prices for American consumers and businesses,
Undermine decades of transatlantic cooperation,
And further damage U.S. credibility on the world stage.
We, the undersigned, call on President Donald Trump to:
- Immediately drop his plan to impose punitive tariffs over Greenland;
- Respect the sovereignty of Greenland and the Kingdom of Denmark;
- Reaffirm that U.S. foreign policy is built on mutual respect—not economic retaliation.
Tariffs should never be used to pressure democratic nations into surrendering territory.
Greenland is not a bargaining chip. Europe is not the enemy. And U.S. leadership should not be reduced to a series of ultimatums.
Tell President Trump: Drop the Greenland tariffs and end this dangerous escalation.
