Community involvement is crucial to any democracy, it is especially needed in times of widespread change and uncertainty. Our representative, Rep. Tim Burchett, has been elected to represent us and our interests. However, there has been a noticeable lack of communication and accountability with his constituents. The concerns of the people he represents are not being effectively communicated, making it impossible for him to accurately represent us. Having Rep. Burchett present at a town hall meeting would provide an opportunity for the exchange of ideas, concerns, and solutions between the people and their elected official. As per a study done by the Brookings Institution, such public meetings can significantly enhance democratic governance and responsiveness (Brookings Institution, 2016). We call on Rep Tim Burchett to attend a town hall meeting in our community so we can directly share our concerns, hear his position, and collectively work towards better solutions.
