My friends,
I want to say a massive thank you for your support of my advocacy. Over 56,000 Canadians have signed on board our campaign for economic justice. Large grocery stores have been robbing everyday Canadians for years with little to no checks and balances.
It just isn’t fair. I remember as a kid my parents struggling to afford groceries and my neighbours having to access the food bank to feed their children. This crisis is becoming worse especially as large grocery store chains like Loblaws take advantage of Canadians.
It was announced yesterday that the board of Loblaw Companies doesn’t think they compensate Galen Weston enough and as a result they will be increasing his pay. You can read more here.
Last month, due to the pressure that we placed on MPs and the media campaign that we created, parliament summoned the 5 big grocery CEOs. While I’m pleased to see this as a first step, more must be done to protect Canadians.
Folks shouldn’t have to access the food bank to feed their families. It is wrong especially when large grocery store chains are raking in record profits. When we stand together, we can’t be defeated.
I need your help to continue to build pressure for a parliamentary investigation into Loblaws. If you have spare time, knowledge or expertise in political organizing, I’m asking for you to join me in creating a campaign for economic justice, one that is centred around ending price gouging in Canada.
The working class in this country has momentum. We can build one of the largest movements in this country for economic justice. This movement needs people from all walks of life’s and from across the country. You can join the team by signing up here.
I’m excited by the advocacy that myself and this team will be doing over the summer and into the Fall to deliver economic justice for Canadians. I will be posting more regular updates here and on my Twitter account!
