Petition to Governor Hochul: Call in the National Guard Now
In light of escalating antisemitism in New York City, we are calling on Governor Kathy Hochul to take immediate action. Supporters of Hamas and Hezbollah have declared a "week of rage" in NYC, coinciding with the anniversary of the October 7, 2023, massacre in Israel, which claimed the lives of nearly 1,200 individuals, including over 40 Americans. This horrific event marked one of the deadliest attacks on Jews since the Holocaust.
Since October 7, incidents of antisemitism in New York City have surged. According to the NYPD, hate crimes targeting Jewish individuals increased by over 400% in the past year. A recent survey revealed that nearly 60% of Jews in NYC feel unsafe due to rising antisemitic sentiments, with many expressing a lack of confidence in local law enforcement's ability to protect them.
As extremist groups plan rallies from Washington Square Park to Times Square, we are deeply concerned about the potential for violence. The NYPD, already strained and underfunded, may not be equipped to handle the anticipated unrest during this critical week. With Mayor Adams under indictment and law enforcement stretched thin, the safety of our community hangs in the balance.
We urge the Jewish community to remain vigilant during this time and prioritize their safety. However, we cannot accept a status quo where our voices are silenced, and our safety is compromised.
If we would not tolerate the KKK marching in our streets promoting hate and violence, we cannot remain silent now. The time for petitions is over. We demand immediate action.
