More than 1,000 political, social, and cultural activists condemned the recent arrests in Mashhad Iran in a joint statement.

Issued in protest against the arrest of participants in the memorial ceremony for Khosrow Alikordi, a lawyer and human rights defender, the statement brings together— for the first time— the signatures of figures from a wide range of backgrounds: political, civil, and labor activists; members of the cultural and artistic community; journalists; university professors; families of those killed, veterans, and justice-seeking families; former cellmates; women’s rights activists; independent lawyers; those harmed during the Mahsa movement; and student organizations. The signatories call for the immediate and unconditional release of all those detained.

Among the signatories of this statement is a wide range of well-known figures: from artists and cultural activists such as Jafar Panahi, Taraneh Alidoosti, Rakhshan Bani-Etemad, Mohammad Rasoulof, Pantea Bahram, Pegah Ahangarani, Sohila Golestani, Farzaneh Taheri, Fatemeh Motamed-Arya, Mohsen Amiryoussefi, Fardin Khalatbari, Reza Dormishian, Shabnam Farshadjoo, Maryam Palizban, Sepideh Farsi, Barbad Golshiri, and Hana Kamkar, to prominent journalists including Elaheh Mohammadi, Niloufar Hamedi, Mina Akbari, Nasim Soltanbeigi, and Lily Farhadpour.

Among the signatories are also notable lawyers such as Abdolfattah Soltani, Amir Salar Davodi, and Dr. Mahmoud Behzadi. Families seeking justice, including Parasto Frouhar, Parisa Pouyandeh, Manzar Zarabi, Atash Shakeri, Shahnaz Akmali, and Monireh Baradaran; feminist and women’s rights activists such as Fatemeh Farhangkhah, Noushin Ahmadi Khorasani, Parvin Ardalan, Mansoureh Shojaei, and Shahrzad Mojab; as well as human rights defenders like Shiva Nazar-Ahari and Mahdieh Golrou, have also expressed their support.

Political figures including Nahid Taghavi, Mansoureh Behkish, Naser Mohajer, Sara Siahpour, Farhad Meisami, Parvaneh Salahshouri, Fakhri Mohtashami-Pour, Morteza Alviri, Mahdi Mahmoudian, Siamak Namazi, Abdollah Momeni, Reza Alijani, and Iman Vaghfi, along with student activists such as Fereshteh Toosi, university professors including Touraj Atabaki, Dr. Mohammad Reza Nikfar, Dr. Javad Emami, Dr. Abolfazl Shayan, and Dr. Mohammad Reza Resaei, as well as political prisoners like Saeed Madani, Mostafa Tajzadeh, Zartosht Ahmadi Ragheb, and Mohammad Najafi, are also listed among the signatories.

In addition, former cellmates such as Vida Rabbani, Bahareh Soleimani, Zhila Makvandi, Maryam Mohammadi, Raha Asgarizadeh, Samin Ehsani, and Noushin Jafari; families of martyrs including Asieh Bakri; veterans like Mohammad Bagher Bakhtiar; labor and teacher activists such as Zhila Modares Gorji, Mohammad Habibi, and Esmaeil Abdi; and environmental activists including Sepideh Kashani, Houman Jokar, and Niloufar Biani have also signed and supported this statement.

Beyond a simple protest against one arrest, this statement is a rare sign of unity and shared purpose, cutting across the significant political and intellectual divisions currently fragmenting Iran.

From the right to mourn to the demand for freedom

More than 50 citizens and civil society activists, including Narges Mohammadi, Alieh Motalebzadeh, Hasti Amiri, Sepideh Gholian, and Pouran Nazemi, were arrested in Mashhad during the memorial ceremony for Khosrow Alikordi, a principled lawyer and human rights defender.

We, the signatories of this statement, strongly condemn the arrest of participants in this ceremony. We condemn the violent arrest and the beating of our loved ones present at the memorial. We also condemn the complicity of those who accompanied this unrestrained violence with inhumane behavior. What happened in Mashhad was a trampling of all aspects of human dignity.

Holding memorial and mourning ceremonies for the deceased is an inseparable part of fundamental human and civil rights. Every person has the right, without fear of threats or arrest, to participate in mourning rituals, peaceful gatherings, and civil activities. What occurred in Mashhad once again showed that even the simplest and most humane forms of collective empathy are met with repression and violence.

Nevertheless, the widespread presence of citizens from various parts of the country at the memorial for Khosrow Alikordi is a clear sign of social solidarity and the deep respect of people who consider the suffering of others as their own and do not remain silent in the face of injustice.

We call for the immediate and unconditional release of all detainees and emphasize their fundamental right to access phone calls, family visits, independent legal counsel, and medical care. We also call on all those who believe in civil liberties and human dignity to stand alongside political and civil prisoners and be their voice.

Narges Mohammadi, Sepideh Gholian, Javad Alikordi, Abolfazl Abri, Pouran Nazemi, Hassan Bagheri-Nia, Tayebeh Nazari, Alieh Motalebzadeh, Ali Adinehzadeh, and Hasti Amiri are among the civil society figures who were arrested during the ceremony.

While authorities have confirmed the arrest of 39 people in Mashhad, human rights activists say the number of detainees exceeds 50. According to lists published on social media and reports by human rights sources, the names of Mohammadreza Babaei, Javad Jalali, Hamed Zare’, Heydar Chah-Chamandi, Mahmoud Khanali, Amir Khavari, Hamed Hosseini, Mohammad Hossein Hosseini, Noora Haghi, Hamed Rasulkhani, Mehdi Rasulkhani, Yaser Dehestani, Kamran Alikordi, Milad Fattah, Hossein Mohabbati, and Pouria Najjarzadeh have also been cited among those detained.

بیش از هزار فعال سیاسی، اجتماعی و فرهنگی در بیانیه‌ای مشترک بازداشت‌های اخیر مشهد را محکوم کردند. 

این بیانیه که در اعتراض به بازداشت شرکت‌کنندگان در مراسم یادبود خسرو علی‌کردی، وکیل و مدافع حقوق بشر، منتشر شده، برای نخستین‌بار امضای چهره‌هایی از طیف‌های گوناگون ــ از فعالان سیاسی، مدنی، کارگری، اهالی فرهنگ و هنر، روزنامه‌نگاران، اساتید دانشگاه، خانواده‌های دادخواه، «شهدا»، «جانبازان»، هم‌بندی‌های سابق، فعالین زنان، وکلای مستقل، آسیب‌دیدگان جنبش مهسا و تشکل‌های دانشجویی ــ را در کنار هم قرار داده و خواستار آزادی فوری و بی‌قید و شرط تمامی بازداشت‌شدگان شده است. 

از میان امضاکنندگان این بیانیه، می‌توان به طیف گسترده‌ای از چهره‌های شناخته‌شده اشاره کرد؛ از هنرمندان و فعالان فرهنگی چون جعفر پناهی، ترانه علیدوستی، رخشان بنی‌اعتماد، محمد رسول‌اف، پانته‌آ بهرام، سهیلا گلستانی، فرزانه طاهری، فاطمه معتمدآریا، محسن امیریوسفی، فردین خلعتبری، رضا درمیشیان، مریم پالیزبان، سپیده فارسی، باربد گلشیری، و هانا کامکار، شبنم فرشادجو، پگاه آهنگرانی، تا روزنامه‌نگاران سرشناس از جمله الهه محمدی، نیلوفر حامدی، مینا اکبری، نسیم سلطان‌بیگی و لی‌لی فرهادپور.

همچنین چهره‌های سیاسی از جمله ناهید تقوی، منصوره بهکیش، ناصر مهاجر، مهناز متین، سارا سیاهپور، فرهاد میثمی، پروانه سلحشوری، فخری محتشمی‌پور، مرتضی الویری، مهدی محمودیان، سیامک نمازی، عبدالله مومنی، رضا علیجانی، ایمان واقفی به همراه فعالان دانشجویی چون فرشته طوسی، اساتید دانشگاه از جمله تورج اتابکی، دکتر محمدرضا نیکفر، دکتر جواد امامی، دکتر ابوالفضل شایان و دکتر محمدرضا رسایی، و زندانیان سیاسی مانند سعید مدنی، مصطفی تاجزاده، زرتشت احمدی راغب و محمد نجفی نیز در فهرست امضاکنندگان قرار دارند.

در کنار این‌ها، همبندی‌های سابق ویدا ربانی، بهاره سلیمانی، ژیلا مکوندی، مریم محمدی، رها عسگری‌زاده، ثمین احسانی، نوشین جعفری، خانواده‌های «شهدا» و «جانبازان» از جمله آسیه باکری و محمدباقر بختیار، فعالان صنفی کارگری و معلمی از جمله ژیلا مدرس‌گرجی، محمد حبیبی و اسماعیل عبدی و فعالان محیط زیست مانند سپیده کاشانی، هومن جوکار و نیلوفر بیانی نیز این بیانیه را امضا و از آن حمایت کرده‌اند. این بیانیه فقط اعتراض به یک بازداشت نیست بلکه نمایش یک هم‌صدایی کم‌سابقه در دل شکاف‌های عمیق سیاسی و فکری ایران امروز است.

از حق سوگواری تا خواست آزادی

بیش از پنجاه شهروند و فعال مدنی از جمله نرگس محمدی، عالیه مطلب‌زاده، هستی امیری، سپیده قلیان، پوران ناظمی، در جریان مراسم یادبود خسرو علی‌کردی، وکیل شریف و مدافع حقوق بشر، در مشهد بازداشت شدند.ما، امضا کنندگان این بیانیه، بازداشت شرکت‌کنندگان در این  مراسم را به‌شدت محکوم می‌کنیم؛ ما برخوردهای خشونت‌آمیز و ضرب و شتم عزیزان حاضر در مراسم را محکوم می‌کنیم. ما همراهی عده‌ای که با رفتارهای غیرانسانی با این خشونت افسار گسیخته همراه بودند را محکوم می‌کنیم. آنچه در مشهد رخ داد، زیرپا گذاشتن همه وجوه شان انسانی بود. 

برگزاری مراسم یادبود و عزاداری برای درگذشتگان، بخشی جدایی‌ناپذیر از حقوق بنیادین انسانی و شهروندی است. هر انسان حق دارد بی‌هراس از تهدید و بازداشت، در آیین‌های سوگواری، تجمع‌های مسالمت‌آمیز و فعالیت‌های مدنی شرکت کند. آنچه در مشهد رخ داد، بار دیگر نشان داد که حتی ساده‌ترین و انسانی‌ترین شکل همدردی جمعی نیز با سرکوب و خشونت پاسخ داده می‌شود.با این همه، حضور گسترده شهروندان از نقاط مختلف کشور در مراسم یادبود خسرو علی‌کردی، نشانه‌ای روشن از همبستگی اجتماعی و احترام عمیق مردمی است که رنج دیگران را رنج خود می‌دانند و در برابر بی‌عدالتی سکوت نمی‌کنند.

ما خواهان آزادی فوری و بی‌قید و شرط تمامی بازداشت‌شدگان هستیم و بر حق بدیهی آنان برای دسترسی به تماس تلفنی، ملاقات با خانواده، و برخورداری از وکیل مستقل و خدمات پزشکی تأکید می‌کنیم. همچنین از همه کسانی که به آزادی‌های مدنی و کرامت انسانی باور دارند، می‌خواهیم در کنار زندانیان سیاسی و مدنی بایستند و صدای آنان باشند.
