We are Ontario taxpayers who object to MPP Stan Cho's misuse of $16,203 in public funds for Toronto accommodations, despite MPP Cho being a Toronto area MPP that lives 6 km from Queen's Park. As a cabinet minister, MPP Cho was already given a government assigned vehicle that a member of staff is allowed to drive for him, which would have allowed him to return to his place of residence, even on late nights, without requiring him to stay in a Toronto area hotel.

For many working class people in the GTA, commuting at least one to two hours both ways on every working day is the norm. A standard Monday-to-Friday schedule will require someone to commute for approximately 261 days per year. MPPs sat at Queen's Park for 75 days in 2023, 80 days in 2024, and 51 days in 2025. As someone who lives 6 km away, with a government provided vehicle that someone else could drive for him, and who was required to attend his place of work for a fraction of the days that most people are required to, MPP Cho commutes for much less time than many working class Ontarians and has the means to return home without billing taxpayers for additional accommodations.

It is also disrespectful to the public for MPP Cho to additionally bill taxpayers for Toronto area hotels when our provincial budgets show deficits in the order of billions of dollars. In the 2023-2024 fiscal year, a $0.6 billion deficit was reported. In the 2024-2025 fiscal year, a $1.1 billion deficit was reported. The current projected deficit for 2025-2026 is $12.3 billion. 

Additionally, while MPP Cho claims that the Toronto-area hotels were used due to late sittings at the legislature, reporting by The Trillium claims that "most of Cho’s Toronto accommodation expenses came in months when there were no sitting days that went later than usual".

MPP Cho claimed expenses for $1,791.00 in May 2024, $1,290.03 in June 2024, and $6,4368.00 in December 2025. According to The Trillium, there were no late sittings in those months.

In November 2025, there was one late sitting, but public records show that MPP Cho filed one expense of $348.90 and a second expense of $1222.71.

In May 2025, there were three late sittings, and MPP Cho claimed expenses of $3,764.70 for Special Circumstance Accommodation in Toronto, which would work out to $1,254.90 per night.

Finally, due to the recent changes to Freedom of Information (FOI) laws that his party made, it is more difficult for the public to request records and hold our elected representatives accountable. We are not able to request records belonging to cabinet ministers and their political staff, which would help the public understand on what days and for what reasons MPP Cho made these claims for Toronto hotels when he was a cabinet minister. The inability to have this transparency in light of a scandal undermines the trust the public has with our elected officials.

We believe that MPP Cho's conduct is unbecoming of someone who holds public office. We are calling for his full resignation.
