Here’s an encouraging update on the petition, which is now nearing 1,000 signatures. CKPG News interviewed me on Friday, December 13, and while I was nervous, I’m grateful for the chance to raise awareness about this important issue. The support has been incredible, and I feel optimistic that we can make a real impact with all this attention.

During the interview, Mayor Simon Yu shared his personal connection to the stretch of Highway 16, recounting the tragic loss of a close family friend in a collision on this road.  He expressed his support for the petition and pledged to use it as an advocacy piece to push for improvements, including better lighting and wildlife signage.

The dangers on this highway are still present. Just recently, I saw a small deer run across the upper curve near Boundary Road while I was driving. Thankfully, I avoided a collision, but it was a reminder of why these changes are so important and that deer are still actively crossing there.

The memory of the deer that inspired this petition, along with the growing support through signatures and donations, keeps me motivated to continue pushing for change. Thank you to everyone who has signed and shared the petition.
