Call for NCEA standard specifications

The issue

Following multiple 2024 NCEA exams, many complaints have been filed regarding the inconsistency of content included in exams for many subjects. High-achieving students are severely disadvantaged during their studies as it is unclear exactly what content is included in the curriculum and is expected to be known for examinations. This is a result of NCEA being the only qualification without an in-depth specification outlining all the content that could be possibly examined, such as IGCSE or IB qualifications do. For example, this link shows the IGCSE chemistry specification, which onward from page 15 clearly outlines everything that could possibly be included in an assessment

 https://qualifications.pearson.com/content/dam/pdf/International%20GCSE/Chemistry/2017/specification-and-sample-assessments/international-gcse-chemistry-2017-specification.pdf

The lack of a public assessment specification for NCEA subjects has led to uncertainty and miscommunication among schools regarding the content that must be taught throughout the school year and as a result, has caused NCEA exams to be unorganised and unpredictable. There is an incredibly simple solution to this issue; creating assessment specifications for each subject in 2025. Students will have access to an outline of exactly what they are required to know for examinations, making their studies much more straightforward and avoiding any future upset and complaints after examinations.
