Call for a Canadian Progressive Alliance – Time for the Liberals and NDP to Unite
The Issue
In Canada, the need for strong, unified leadership that represents the values of social justice, climate action, and economic fairness has never been more urgent. With a rising tide of inequality, climate change accelerating, and a healthcare system under strain, the Canadian people deserve a government that prioritizes their needs, not partisan divisions.
For years, the Liberal Party and the New Democratic Party (NDP) have shared common progressive goals: fighting for affordable healthcare, combating climate change, advancing workers' rights, and building a more inclusive and equitable society. However, constant division between the two parties has allowed the Conservative Party to repeatedly win elections, often pushing policies that run counter to the values of the majority of Canadians.
This petition calls for a bold and historic step: the merger of the Liberal and NDP parties into a single, progressive political force that can unite to address the biggest challenges of our time. By joining together, these two parties could form a government that reflects the diverse, inclusive, and forward-thinking nation that Canada is meant to be.
Why this merger is essential:
Unite for Progressive Policies: The merging of the Liberals and NDP would create a unified force dedicated to fighting climate change, ensuring affordable healthcare for all, raising the minimum wage, tackling housing affordability, and advancing racial and gender equality. A united front would be far stronger in enacting the bold policies needed to protect Canadians’ future.
Overcome Divisions: For too long, Canadians have been split between two progressive parties, allowing the Conservatives to dominate in key elections. A unified party would have the numbers, resources, and mandate to ensure that the voice of the majority is heard and acted upon.
End Partisan Gridlock: The political gridlock in Ottawa, caused by the inability of the Liberals and NDP to cooperate on key issues, has hurt Canadians. This merger would eliminate unnecessary competition between two parties with similar platforms and allow the progressive agenda to move forward.
Strengthen Canada’s Future: A merged progressive party would bring together the best of both worlds: the NDP’s commitment to social justice and workers’ rights, and the Liberal Party’s focus on pragmatic governance and economic stability. Together, we can build a better, fairer Canada that works for everyone, not just the wealthy few.
We are asking the leadership of both the Liberal Party and the NDP to begin discussions on a formal merger to create a stronger, united political force that can effectively address the challenges facing Canadians today and in the future.
This is the time for change. Canadians want a government that works for them, not for the rich or the powerful. Let’s stop the political infighting and come together to create a brighter, more equitable future.
