Support decriminalization of local street vending

The Issue

California State Legislature passed SB-946 in January, 2019, which was enacted with the express intent of promoting the “entrepreneurship and economic development opportunities” that street vending entails for low-income, immigrant communities and the unique touristic charm famous of our state. Specifically, SB-949 decriminalized the act of street vending in California. Unfortunately, the City of Santa Monica has taken measures to "side-step" the intent of SB-949 by passing local laws which attempt to "re-criminalize" street vending; as well as taking an aggressive stance to wrongfully target individual street vendors in violation of both the legal protections and underlying spirit provided by SB-946 itself. Please let the City of Santa Monica know that you oppose such actions to target and intimidate local street vendors, as well as voice your opposition to the recently enacted local ordinances which attempt to "undo SB-946" by re-criminalizing street vending on a local basis.
