Save California's Great America

Save California's Great America
The Issue
Cedar Fair announced on Monday June 27th, 2022 a deal to sell California's Great America's land to Prologis Inc. for redevelopment. Since opening day on March 20th, 1976, Great America has been a staple for fun and entertainment in the Bay Area. For over 46 years, this park entertained millions of people and created an immeasurable amount of lifelong memories. Not only will losing this park be an unfathomable loss to our community but even more so for the over 1,000 hardworking associates who call this park home. While Cedar Fair may only see us as an asset, to many its a 2nd home. They could build hundreds of apartments, stores, and warehouses but nothing can replace Great America. It's not everyday theme parks are built, and it's not everyday we have the chance to save one so meaningful to us. Today, right now, we make our stand to save our hometown theme park. Whether if you haven't visited once, none at all, or every day, California's Great America is a park worth saving.
My Story
California's Great America has been a part of my life since I was a toddler. I've come to this park countless times with my family. Whenever I grew up, Great America has grew up all around me. From what was then KidzVille and Boomerang Bay to Flight Deck and Gold Striker I ride now, Great America has been there through all of it. When I was a kid I dreamed of working at Great America and last year I achieved that dream. This place was the first and only place I applied to and I'm glad to say it was my first job. I was a Ride Operator and started at Flight Deck. Working that ride helped me overcome my fear of roller coaster and made me the thrill fanatic that I am today. I met so many people along the way and made so many friendships. These people are my family and Great America is my home. I dream of the day that I can take my kids to the park and see how much it has changed. I'm proud to say that I am a Great America kid and I would not be the same person I am today without it. While I may not be working at the park anymore, its still a place that holds so much value to me. Till the day that you close your doors, I'll be your number one supporter and protest your closure. I hope the day you close will never come.
