Dear friends: We dedicated our previous Update to the New Normal as an euphemism for Climate Change. Well the New Normal is very active in Northern California and promising a Summer and Fall to be remembered, if we continue with "the same old". Yes, the fire departments are more alert than last year but their increased alertness is already proving INSUFFICIENT. The Pawnee Fire in Lake County is at 14,700 acres and 75% contained but Saturday grew to a new area to the South. The County Fire in Lake County is at 44,500 acres and 3% contained. This fire started on 6/30/18 at 2:12 pm and in less than 2 days grew to the current size of 44,500 acres (unprecedented?). IT IS THE CLIMATE STUPID (paraphrasing Bill Clinton's famous quote Ït's the Economy Stupid"). The New Normal is providing for that part of California a very dangerous environment of high temperatures in the 90's, low humidity and wind. Very difficult conditions to fight fires. Keep on promoting this petition so our Climate Champion Governor Jerry Brown shows his courage and issues a Climate Change Major Disaster Declaration. We all know that it is cheaper and less dangerous to prevent than to "recover"after the disaster. LET'S BE PROACTIVE FOR ONCE. THERE IS NOT MUCH TIME LEFT TO ACT.
