On 11/18/16 I e-mailed the Governor of California to request a meeting to discuss My strategy and the urgent need for him, as governor, to Declare Climate Change a Major Disaster. Below is the text of the request; I respectfully request a meeting with Governor Brown to discuss the proposal in my petition "California Governor: Declare Climate Change a Major Disaster Before It's Too Late". As you know, we are already working on borrowed time regarding the catastrophic issue of Climate Change. Bad news keep on rolling in, such as "2016 to be the hottest year on record" "Average global air temperatures to be 1.2 ºC or more in 2016, above pre-industrial times" or "Currently a large area of the Arctic is having air temperatures 20ºC above normal". Gradualism is no longer enough to stop Climate Change and it can be even detrimental to the solution because it is giving people a sense of security that does not exist. So, even the progressive legislation and programs in California are not enough. You, as governor of California have a power that can start an unstoppable transformation to solve the Climate Crisis: YOU CAN DECLARE CLIMATE CHANGE A MAJOR DISASTER. Besides the overwhelming urgency for this action imposed by Climate Change itself, the current political situation in the U.S.A. also requires a expeditious action: President Barack Obama will approve Federal help to your declaration while President Trump will not. Climate Scientists and Climate Change Action leaders are calling for a World War II-type of mobilization to have a chance to solve Climate Change. Your declaration is the closest to such level of mobilization. Implementing this strategy will inspire other States to do the same, and then...the nation and the world will follow.
