Petition updateCalifornia Governor: Issue a CLIMATE CHANGE EMERGENCY DECLARATION before it's too lateClimate Change and the politics of fear and lies

Inducing fear and lying about the facts, are commonly used tools to manipulate people in order to stop a necessary positive change or to produce a change negative to most people.
Since the 1970s when governments began to agree that the Climate was changing and that the emissions of green house gases (GHH) from human societies were the main cause of this Climate Change, corporations and leaders of countries invested in fossil fuels, and other special interests, used those politics of fear and lies to keep the public misinformed about the origin and consequences of this Climate Change, and sold the idea that acting on Climate Change was too expensive and was going to ruin the life style of middle and upper classes of the world. Anybody claiming that Climate Change was a catastrophe in the making was labeled as an ignorant alarmist that had to be ostracized.
Examples of this very risky game of deception are abundant but two of them stand out. One was the scientific research funded by Exxon Mobil that, more than 40 years ago, produced conclusive evidence of the reality of Climate Change but was kept in secret by the company. The other one was the hacking of e-mails between climate scientists that was used by the special interests to wrongfully discredit Climate Change research to support that Climate Change was a hoax.
This extraordinary international conspiracy tremendously slowed down Climate Change Action, so the annual reductions of GHH by 2-3% recommended by the scientists were not implemented, leading to the current state of the Climate that requires the halting of emissions as soon as it is physically possible and the capturing of excess carbon already in the atmosphere. What could have been a transition has become a tangible disaster.
In 5 days, the United States of America, the most powerful country in the world and the historically greatest emitter of GHH will have a presidential election that may define the chances of solving the climate crisis or not, and where the politics of fear and lies are more prevalent than ever.
The candidates of the dominant Democratic and Republican constitute very risky choices to the future of the planet. One promises insufficient Climate Change action conditioned by the corporate interests that fund her. The other one does not even accept that there is a man-made Climate Change.
While the two main parties and their media allies are doing everything possible to convince the electorate that their candidates are the only two options (like, bad and worse), there is an insurgent force led by Jill Stein, the Green Party candidate that offers the possibility of having a president that will put Climate Change action at the center of her presidency with policies like the Green New Deal to transform the economy of the United States and a Climate Emergency Declaration.
The “strategic” vote that many progressive and environmental organizations are proposing, of voting for Hillary Clinton to defeat Donald Trump (The very undesirable candidate intentionally propped up by the Clinton campaign), while ignoring the only truly progressive and pro-climate candidate, is a self-defeating strategy based on the created fear of the possible victory of the “greater evil” and the lukewarm, false promises from a candidate willing to lose her soul to win this election.
We, as defenders of climate and life, know that the “gradualism” in Climate action offered by Clinton can, at this time, be as bad as the Climate Change denial offered by Trump. This time, there is a real Climate champion that we can have in the White House if we vote for Jill Stein now.
