California’s iconic coastline is under threat. We need your help.

The leadership of California’s Coastal Commission – the agency committed to protecting and enhancing our coast through planning and regulation – is in jeopardy. A few members of the 12-seat Commission are pursuing the removal of Executive Director Dr. Charles Lester.

Please add your name to our letter below encouraging the Commission to stand up for the Coastal Act and support Dr. Lester.

Dear Commissioners,

As a concerned resident of California, I am disturbed about the actions at the Coastal Commission to fire Executive Director Dr. Charles Lester. During Dr. Lester’s tenure, the Commission has made critical strides in protecting our precious 840-mile coastline, including:

• Protecting public access to beaches along 840 miles of pristine Pacific coast;
• Requiring Sea World to phase out its captive orca breeding program;
• Providing strong habitat protection for the Santa Monica Mountains by certifying a long-stalled Local Coastal Program; 
• Developing the first-ever Sea Level Rise policy to prepare our vulnerable coastline from climate change impacts.

With threats like climate change and overdevelopment, our coastline needs strong Coastal Commission leadership more than ever. I urge you to keep Dr. Lester in place to continue the good work he's been doing in balancing the interests of developers with the interests of the true owners of the California coastline, members of the public like me.
