We are close to 4000 supporters (this online petition and a print petition taken to the Guild on weekends - 3983 signers) - let's keep up the effort! We particularly need volunteers for the weekend of June 16-18 and new volunteers - it's a lot more fun to stand outside the theater now that the weather is warmer. For the adventurous, come collect signatures at one of the monthly midnight Rocky Horror Picture Show screenings! We have no updates on the status of the theater beyond the owner's openness to an offer. We are going into high gear to try to find an "angel investor" or group of investors to save the theater from redevelopment - as philanthropist David W. Packard did for the grand Stanford Theater in Palo Alto; as a community petition succeeded in getting a 2 year reprieve for Palo Alto's Cinearts theater, the Palo Alto Square; and as a group of investors gave new life to our wonderful Menlo Park bookstore, Kepler's Books. Surely we can find local philanthropists/benefactors to save our 90+ year old Guild! Please help us by posting our effort on your Facebook page, telling friends and neighbors to patronize the theater, write letters to the editor of the Menlo Park Almanac and other local newspapers - even those of you no longer live in the Menlo Park, CA area but have fond memories and support local indie/foreign/and arts films in small, neighborhood theaters can help in our campaign. If you live in a peninsula city other than Menlo Park, please post about our petition on your nextdoor.com, picketfence, meetup or other social media. Shoot out some tweets on Twitter. And we need a fresh group of volunteers to collect signatures outside the theater on weekends (especially starting the weekend of June 16-18).
