Currently many aged care homes face continuous staff shortages, stressful working conditions and low wages which do not reflect the responsibility required for the demands of the work. Residents, families and staff all are affected. Residents are not receiving the standard of care promised when paying with their life savings for accommodation and 24 hour care at a facility. Families are unhappy and frustrated when seeing loved ones being cared for to a standard far less than promised. Nurses and carers are daily working short staffed because staff are calling in sick or resigning due to being overworked and underpaid. Bupa, as a massive provider of accommodation for the elderly are being called on to provide better pay and improved working conditions so that carers are attracted to the aged care sector and can then provide the living standards that residents have been promised. I and all carers have a conscience which means caring deeply about the residents we look after, and to give our elderly people all the respect they deserve is of the highest priority. Providing a home-like environment in which to rest, relax and be at peace is a place our elderly have chosen in good faith where they may die with dignity. These residents surely deserve the very best from every level of Bupa Aged care services from care staff to the highest level of management.
