Liebe Unterstützerinnen und Unterstützer,
die Europawahl steht vor der Tür und daher stellt sich erneut die Frage, wie es um den Tierschutz bestellt ist. Es gibt in diesem Bereich viele Baustellen; im Rahmen unserer Petition soll aber nachfolgend das bundesweite Wildtierverbot im Zirkus im Fokus stehen.
Vor etwas über einem Jahr trat Julia Klöckner (CDU) ihr Amt als Bundesministerin für Ernährung und Landwirtschaft an. Eines der Kernthemen in diesem Amt ist der Tierschutz und somit fällt u.a. auch das Thema „Bundesweites Wildtierverbot im Zirkus“ in ihren Kompetenzbereich.
Die bisherigen Ergebnisse ihrer Arbeit in diesem Bereich sind ernüchternd: Nach wie vor werden Wildtiere von den Zirkusbetrieben kreuz und quer durch Deutschland gekarrt. Die Zeit dazwischen fristen sie in meist kleinen und trostlosen Gehegen oder werden dem Zirkuspublikum zur Belustigung vorgeführt.
Erst kürzlich war den Medien zu entnehmen, dass sich Frau Klöckner zum Thema positioniert hat und ein generelles Wildtierverbot im Zirkus ablehnt. Wie nicht anders zu erwarten war, reagierten sehr viele Bürgerinnen und Bürger verärgert und enttäuscht auf diese Nachricht.
In einer Sprechererklärung vom 29. April 2019 zum Thema „Wildtierverbot im Zirkus“ bezog das Bundesministerium für Ernährung und Landwirtschaft (BMEL) wie folgt Stellung:
Zitat Anfang: Für Bundesministerin Klöckner ist klar: Wildtiere wie Giraffen gehören nicht in den Zirkus. Deshalb plant die Bundesministerin den Einstieg in den Ausstieg einiger Tierarten im Zirkus in die Wege zu leiten. Denn: Manche Tierarten haben in der Manege nichts zu suchen. Schon der häufige Ortswechsel und die Transporte sind aus Tierschutzgründen für Wildtiere problematisch. Wir werden deshalb Haltungsverbote für bestimmte Tierarten im Zirkus prüfen.“ Zitat Ende
Die häufigen Ortswechsel und die damit verbundenen ständigen Tiertransporte sind neben vielen weiteren Aspekten genau die Gründe, auf welchen unsere Petition fußt.Daher freue ich mich sehr, dass es seitens des BMEL jetzt erstmals Signale in die richtige Richtung gibt. Bleibt zu hoffen, dass den Worten auch Taten folgen.
Klar ist aber auch, dass ein Wildtierverbot nicht nur Giraffen betreffen darf, sondern alle Wildtiere schützen muss. Keinesfalls darf ein Bundesgesetz verabschiedet werden, welches einige wenige Wildtierarten unter Schutz stellt, andere aber unberücksichtigt lässt. Daher hoffe ich, dass sich Frau Klöckner nicht zu schwammigen Kompromissen hinreißen lässt, sondern endlich konsequent ein für alle Wildtiere geltendes Verbot im Zirkus auf den Weg bringt. Gesetzliche Regelungen wie „Verbot von Wildtieren im Zirkus, Ausnahmen stellen aber z.B. Elefanten, Tiger, Löwen usw. dar“, werden seitens des Tierschutzes nicht akzeptiert werden und die Fortsetzung unseres Protestes gegen diese Form der Tierhaltung zur Folge haben. Gemeinsam werden wir an der Sache dran bleiben und sicherstellen, dass das Thema nicht in Vergessenheit gerät und es letztlich auch in Deutschland zum längst überfälligen Wildtierverbot im Zirkus kommt.

Und am Schluss noch eine Bitte: Macht von eurem Wahlrecht Gebrauch und nehmt an der Europawahl teil. Gebt eure Stimme einer Partei, die sich aus eurer Sicht für den Tierschutz einsetzt. Jede Stimme zählt. Knapp 160.000 Menschen unterstützen bisher unsere Petition. Zusammen sind wir stark!!!

Nationwide wild animal ban in the circus: It comes what is moving !?
Dear animal rights activists,
The European election is just around the corner and therefore the question arises once again how animal welfare is ordered. There are many construction sites in this area;
in the context of our petition, however, the nationwide wild animal ban in the circus will be the focus of attention below.
Just over a year ago, Julia Klöckner (CDU) took up her position as Federal Minister of Food and Agriculture. One of the core issues in this office is animal welfare and thus falls also the topic "nationwide wild animal ban in the circus" in her area of expertise.
The results so far of her work in this area are sobering: Wild animals are still being carted all over Germany by the circus companies. The time in between, they last in mostly small and desolate enclosures or are presented to the circus audience for amusement.
Just recently, the media revealed that Ms. Klöckner has positioned herself on the subject and rejects a general wild animal ban in the circus. As was to be expected, many citizens reacted with annoyance and disappointment to this news.
In a speaker statement dated April 29, 2019 on the subject of "wild animal ban in the circus", the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL) commented as follows:
Quote beginning: For Federal Minister Klöckner is clear: Wild animals such as giraffes do not belong in the circus. Therefore, the Federal Minister plans to initiate the entry into the exit of some species in the circus. Because: Some animals have no place in the ring. Already the frequent change of location and the transports are problematic for animal welfare reasons for wild animals. We will therefore check keeping restrictions for certain species in the circus. "End quote
The frequent changes of location and the associated constant animal transports are among many other aspects exactly the reasons on which our petition is based.
Therefore, I am very pleased that the BMEL is giving signals in the right direction for the first time. Let's hope that the words also follow action.
But it is also clear that a wild animal ban must not only affect giraffes, but must protect all wild animals. Under no circumstances may a federal law be passed, which protects a few species of wild animals but leaves others unconsidered. Therefore, I hope that Ms Klöckner will not get carried away to vague compromises, but will finally launch a ban on all wild animals in the circus. Statutory regulations such as "prohibition of wild animals in the circus, but exceptions are e.g. Elephants, tigers, lions, etc. "will not be accepted by animal welfare and will result in the continuation of our protest against this form of animal husbandry. Together, we will stay tuned and make sure that the topic is not forgotten and, ultimately, in Germany too the long overdue wild animal ban in the circus comes.

And last but one request: Make use of your right to vote and take part in the European elections. Give your voice to a party that, from your point of view, supports animal welfare. Every vote counts. Almost 160.000 people support our petition so far. Together we’re strong!!!
