Building Bridges: Petition for an Inclusive Playground in Columbus
The Issue
As residents of Columbus, we have seen firsthand the challenges faced by families living with disabilities. Our community is vibrant and diverse, yet we lack a crucial element that could bring us closer together-a truly inclusive playground.
An inclusive playground isn't just about play, it's about creating spaces where everyone can feel welcomed and included. It promotes empathy, understanding, and social integration for people of all ages-regardless of their abilities. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), one in four Ohio adults live with a disability. That's over 2,600,000 Ohioans alone who could benefit from more inclusive public spaces. Columbus is home to many such individuals-including those with cognitive, physical, developmental, social or sensory disabilities. The addition of an all- inclusive playground would not only provide this much-needed space, but also serve as a testament to our city's commitment to inclusivity.
We are stronger when we gather together. Help us make this vision come true by advocating for an inclusive playground in our city. This petition seeks your support in urging the local authorities to take action on this matter. We are currently working with the Magical Bridge Foundation, which is a non-profit organization that designs and builds inclusive playgrounds, parks, and programs to create more inclusive communities. The Magical Bridge Playground is internationally recognized and just received the 2023 "Best Community Resource" award from the San Andreas Regional Center.
Please sign this petition if you believe in building stronger communities through inclusivity and accessibility for all Columbus residents.
