More consultation for Oxford Street East is underway.
This time Transport for NSW is asking for your ideas to create a more vibrant and active street.
A Public Domain and Activation Strategy is being prepared. The community update is here.
Please take a few minutes to fill in the survey HERE
The Have Your Say page closes at 11.59pm on Wednesday 31st July.
Some residents and business owners are still fighting hard for the urban renewal and cycleway plans for Oxford Street East to be shelved. Your support will help balance this negativity. Numbers matter when analysing consultation responses. It is important to demonstrate to nervous politicians that many people from all walks of life support the proposal, despite noisy opposition and divisive media coverage.
There are two sections.
1. Complete a survey
Tick the ‘very high’ and ‘very important’ boxes wherever possible!
Add in your ideas for event and activations. What about a busker festival, or the extension of Vivid down Oxford Street? Bike-related initiatives could also thrive in the new Oxford Street – weekend rides, commuting bike buses, bike hire and Kidical Mass are examples.
Why not close the street completely on Sunday mornings to create a huge event space where people can walk and ride. Weekend closures of major roads are common around the world. It’s time for Sydney to embrace Cyclovia!
2. Share your ideas
Use the ‘Post Your Story’ tab to share ideas to revitalise Oxford Street East. You can upload pictures, links and documents or add text. For each idea, please select a new category. This will spread your thoughts across several posts and increase the positive vibes on the consultation page.
Above all, reiterate your support for the proposals to build a better Oxford Street including:
A best-practice separated cycleway
Removal of two vehicle lanes
Wider footpaths
Lower speed limits
New ‘gateways’ at key intersections along Oxford Street
Lots of new trees for shade
New bike parking
Landscaping for visual amenity and stormwater management
New seating and outdoor dining areas
Regular street closures for events and festivals
Electrification of the 333 bus fleet to reduce noise and pollution
Removal of excess signage, bins and other footpath clutter
New lighting and paint to celebrate the Victorian architecture
3. Write a letter to the project team
You can also send a formal submission to osecycleway@transport.nsw.gov.au
The draft Bicycle NSW submission is HERE
And if you haven’t shared the petition with friends, neighbours, colleagues and family, please send them the link to the Bicycle NSW campaign page.
Thank you all very much. Hopefully it won’t be too long before we can all ride safely down Oxford Street!
