Build Sidewalks and bike lanes on Meeting Street

The Issue

In the section of Meeting Street, between Rivers and Dorchester, there are frequently pedestrians with little to no shoulder to walk on. Handicapped individuals, cyclists, and employees of neighboring businesses can be found commuting on the road at all hours of the day and night. With the lack of visibility on curves, speeding cars, narrow lanes, and large trucks frequenting the port’s loading station, this road can be risky to commute on.

We, as a community of concerned individuals, would like to see this nearly 2 mile stretch of road increase in safety prior to witnessing severe injuries or deaths. We want to see North Charleston become known for its many corridors of pedestrian- friendly routes and opportunities for alternatives to commuting in a car. We have witnessed many unsafe and potentially tragic commuting on this street and want to see change take place and priority be given to improving this stretch of road.

With budgeting, city planning, procurement, design, and construction taking so much time, we want to get this project in the hands of those who serve our citizens as quickly as possible. Please sign now to initiate a movement that will bring about change as quickly as change can happen in a city. This petition for sidewalks and bike lanes will be presented to our representative as quickly as we have a substantial amount of signatures! Thank you for reading this and for caring about this little section of our city!
