Build Safe, High-Quality Public Skateparks in El Paso
The Issue
Target: El Paso City Council, Department of Parks and Recreation, and Elected Officials
The Demand: We, the undersigned residents and supporters, call on our city leadership to prioritize and allocate funding for the construction of modern, high-quality, concrete public skateparks. We need safe, designated spaces where skaters of all ages and skill levels can gather, exercise, and build a vibrant community.
Why This Matters to Our Community
Our city is full of passionate, active youth and adults who love skateboarding, rollerskating, BMX, and scootering. However, our community currently lacks enough adequate, dedicated facilities to support them. Without public skateparks, our local skaters are often forced to ride on sidewalks, parking lots, and street spots, exposing them to traffic hazards and unnecessary conflicts.
Skateboarding is more than just a recreational sport—it is a powerful tool for personal development. A well-designed, public skatepark provides a healthy outlet that fosters physical fitness, mental resilience, and creative expression. It is a unique space where individuals from all walks of life come together, cheer each other on, and learn the value of perseverance. By overcoming challenges on their boards, skaters of all ages gain profound confidence and self-esteem that translates directly into their daily lives.
Our Vision for the Future
We are advocating for skateparks that are:
High-Quality and Concrete: Built using modern, durable concrete construction that minimizes noise, requires low maintenance, and ensures a smooth, safe riding surface for decades.
Safe and Accessible: Centrally located, well-lit, and integrated into existing park systems so that families and youth can easily access them.
Inclusive for All Ages and Skills: Designed with a mix of street and transition elements that welcome toddlers on balance bikes, teenagers mastering street tricks, and older adults staying active.
Investing in public skateparks is an investment in our community’s infrastructure, youth development, and public health. Every dollar spent on safe recreational spaces pays off in stronger, healthier, and more connected neighborhoods.
