Build RH Respectfully (Rezoning our Woods?)

Build RH Respectfully (Rezoning our Woods?)
The Issue
Attention Richmond Hill Friends:
In mid August, our county commissioners will vote on a proposal to rezone the wooded land at the Hwy 144 & Belfast Keller roundabout for commercial use. The plan? Clear the trees and build another Parker’s gas station—right across from the Shell & fire station. It would have two entrances, one onto Hwy 144…. directly at the edge of the Burnt Church cemetery.
Our commissioners are currently divided on this issue. Let’s help them make the right decision.
Rezoning this land would not only erode the natural landscape, but also:
• Disrupt the peace/serenity of the adjacent, historic Cemetery. And offend those with families at rest buried there.
• Create runoff and standing water issues
• Increase traffic congestion
• Harm an already threatened ecosystem
• Disrespect the character and legacy of our community—past and present
This corridor of churches, cemeteries, and woodlands deserves preservation. Our green spaces are disappearing fast. We are urging county officials to deny commercial rezoning in this location.
And if it HAS to happen… small footprints that keep our forest. 100 feet of woods+sound walls+8ft fencing+ mindful semi delivery hours+no entrance onto 144.
Please add your voice by signing the attached petition. It will be presented to Parker’s and the commissioners in early August, ahead of the vote. We hope Parker’s will reconsider, and that our leaders will prioritize thoughtful, respectful development.
There are better locations for commercial projects—places that won’t compromise our community’s history, environment, and identity.
Your voice matters. Let’s protect the Richmond Hill we love.
