Dear Town of Erin Mayor, Councillors and Director of Planning: We have a golden and timely opportunity that involves our Town’s Green Development Standards of “embedding sustainability and GHG emissions reductions at the core of planning, design, construction and management of new developments”.  The opportunity will require mandating that all ‘new builds’ in the Town of Erin use energy efficient heat pump technology for heating and cooling instead of traditional fossil fuels of propane, oil and natural gas. 

This will attract buyers and particularly those with young families:

a/ because they care about their children’s futures

b/ because they are keenly aware of the urgency to end our reliance on fossil fuels as foundational to the climate-change solution, and 

c/ because they are deeply concerned about the affordability of housing and know that the year-over-year operating cost of heating and cooling with heat-pump technology is significantly lower than with natural gas, oil or propane.

In light of these factors, we urge you to add the requirement that all future ‘new builds’ in the Town of Erin use heat pump technology – not fossil fuels – for heating and cooling.
